Annual Report Formed in 1993 as the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton Foundation, the Dayton Masonic Foundation provides scholarships based upon both academic achievement and financial need. The Foundation also provides for patriotic activities, grants for the poor, cultural activities and support for various youth organizations in the community, and historical preservation of the Dayton Masonic Center, which is listed in the U.S. Registry of Historical Sites. Unrestricted net assets are free of donor-imposed restrictions and include all revenues, expenses, gains and losses that are not subject to donor-imposed restrictions. Unrestricted net assets include the Foundation's accounts, and board-designated funds set aside for investment purposes. Temporary restricted net assets include gifts, grants, income, gains and pledges for which donor-imposed restrictions have not yet been met. Scholarships One of Freemasonry's fundamental principles is a belief in the importance of the educated mind. The Dayton Masonic Foundation, in concert with the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, and the Abbot Scholarship Program of the Supreme Council 33o, NMJ, Education and Charity Fund, presents scholarships to children and grandchildren of members. Last year, 12 scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded. Charitable Activities The Dayton Masonic Foundation actively supports community endeavors such as sponsorship of the Big Brothers / Big Sisters Christmas Party, and a benefit concert for Stivers High School. Patriotic Activities For the past 22 years, the Dayton Masonic Foundation has been one of the major sponsors of the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight Holiday Concerts. Over the years, this program has grown from a single performance per year to four concerts presented free of charge to approximately 7,400 holiday music lovers.
